I have keratoconus, and I am having trouble wearing my contact lenses, but my glasses are really, thick and they distort my vision. Can a Visian ICL work for me?
Yes! The Visian ICL can often help those who are very nearsighted as a result of keratoconus. For young people with keratoconus, we often recommend corneal cross-linking to make sure the cornea becomes stable and the keratoconus does not progress. In many cases, we place small reinforcing rings in the cornea called either intracorneal ring segments or Intacs. The plastic ring segments help stabilize the distorted surface of the cornea to improve vision and decrease astigmatism. Once all is stable, we can use a Visian ICL to correct the leftover nearsightedness or myopia. We are lucky to live at a time when we have a number of options to treat keratoconus such as corneal cross-linking, intracorneal ring segments (Intacs), and the Visian ICL.

I HAVE KERATACONOUS AND I HAVEN’T WORKED IN AH COUPLE OV YEARS BECAUSE I CAN’T SEE WELL AT ALL, I TALKED TO A SPECIALISTS TODAY BUT I DON’T HAVE THE FUNDS FOR THE 90 DOLLARS EXAM, THEN THEY WON’T 800 DOLLARS AN EYE, THEY DON’T EXCEPT MY GOVERMENT INSURANCE, IF ANYONE COULD HELP ME OR GIVE ME ANY SUGGESTIONS I THANK U SO MUCH.

Hi Bartholomew, the Visian ICL is one of a number of options that may work well for you, but we cannot say for sure without a complete exam. The Visian ICL works well for some conditions and we use it routinely. However, some other condition can exclude using the Visian and may need other treatments.

I have severe keratoconus in both eyes and my right eye has a bit of scarring after corneal cross linking is it possible for me to get the icl?
